Do You Have A Dental Emergency?

December 4, 2023

A dental emergency doesn’t always favor the rambunctious. In a nod to years of Griswold gold, we know stringing lights is synonymous with danger and a wintry wonderland is far from safe. Remember poor Ralphie Parker?

At our practice, we understand every situation is unique and assure you we are here to help every step of the way, but knowing the first steps toward handling our most common holiday (or anytime) emergencies is critical to your oral health!

Step 1 - Roll through Steps 2 through 4 to determine whether your emergency requires immediate dental attention or if it can wait until regular office hours.

Step 2 - Did your recent lighting mishap, fall, bump, or icy encounter create intense, persistent tooth pain? Don’t ignore a severe toothache - contact us immediately. No pain? Carry on with the holiday merriment (after visiting the ER for your other injuries and to rule out a concussion).

Step 3 - Did your family gathering’s wild antics result in a knocked-out tooth? Here, time is of the essence. Rinse the tooth gently with water (or milk), avoiding the root of the tooth. Place permanent teeth back in their socket (if possible); if not, keep the tooth in a glass of milk or saliva and get to the dentist within the hour!

Step 4 - Did a slippery stoop leave you with a broken or fractured tooth? Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce any swelling. Contact us immediately to further triage broken teeth accompanied by pain or swelling.
